Spirituality of Stones
From Antiquity, gemstones have been thought to possess mysterious powers to protect, to heal and to bring good fortune. Today people value gemstones for their beauty, color, shape, size or their metaphysical qualities. Whatever the reason, gemstone jewelry can speak to you in a personal, special way.

Amazonite - The most powerful gemstone of the feldspar family, amazonite is a soothing, relaxing stone. It connects you to your own personal power, helping to remove anger, fear and worry so you enjoy life more completely. Amazonite creates a tranquil, happy feeling.

Amber - It's a soft stone with a sweet smell when rubbed and has been used for jewelry and religious objects longer than any other gem material known. Besides being beautiful, it represents ancient and timeless wisdom.

Amethyst - Amethyst is said to soothe anger, aid patience, help emotional problems and to prevent nightmares. It is associated with the 7th, or Brow Chakra, which is said to influences the eyes, and ears, and the brain Amethyst was thought by the ancient Greeks to be conducive to a sober and serious mind. It became a stone of royalty for the Egyptians, standing for integrity and courage. Associated with Buddha, its use in prayer beads is popular. And in Europe, amethyst was considered to be the stone of St. Valentine--and that of faithful lovers.

Ametrine - Ametrine has exceptional power to combat fear

Apatite - Apatite is the stone of acceptance. Wearing it contributes to an unconditional acceptance of circumstances and people. Many believe it to be so potent that even a small piece worn continually has great power

Aquamarine - The transparency of light blue-green aquamarine is a cool, calming color and the stone is thought to promote tranquility in marriage and to suppress discord. The stone is associated with the blue, or throat chakra, the balancing of which is said to relieve sore throats, improve digestion and as an aid in calming anxiety.

Seawater-green aquamarine was dedicated by the Greeks to the goddess of love, Aphrodite, and was a gift to the mermaids by King Neptune, the god of the sea. It was thought to possess the majesty and power of the ocean and was worn by sailors for courage and as a talisman of good luck.

Autumn Jasper - Jasper, like agate, is a powerful healing stone. It helps us move beyond just surviving to making us glad to be alive.

Aventurine - Aventurine is associated with optimism, bounty and practical enthusiasm. All are ingredients for adventure. Though there isn't a "d" in the word, when you see aventurine think "adventure." If you long for change, aventurine is for you. It keeps various chakras open and unblocked, allowing good things to come your direction.

Black Onyx - Black has been associated with regeneration and new beginnings. Black onyx is thought by some to have protective qualities, making it advantageous to carry when one is traveling. It is said to be useful in fighting basic fears and in helping to create the opportunity to move beyond bad relationships--and to heal old emotional wounds. The Romans associated it with courage and it is thought to be useful when one is defending him/herself against unfair criticism.

Carnelian - From Antiquity, carnelian has been worn in cameos in the belief that it will ward off insanity and depression. In contemporary times, carnelian is thought by some to enhance self esteem, to combat feelings of inadequacy, and to increase physical energy. Carnelian is associated with the solar plexus chakra (the yellow chakra), in which imbalances are thought to cause digestive problems, as well as lack of confidence.

Citrine - From the earliest of times, citrine was called the "sun stone" and the gemstone was thought capable of holding sunlight. It was thought to improve communication and to attract wealth. To the Romans, it was the stone of Mercury, the messenger god. Citrine is associated with the solar plexus charka. It is thought to have a positive influence that can relieve backache, and combat depression and problems with the liver, spleen, digestive system and the bladder. Some believe that the gemstone can help promote prosperity.

Coral - Coral is a tentacled skeletal creature with microscopic plants living inside its soft tissues. When it reproduces, the new life forms remain attached to their "parents", building reefs in clear, warm seawaters. At the same time the plants go on living inside them and drawing sustenance from the sunlight. Coral shows us the importance of living so that we make the world a good place for the children and grandchildren that follow.

Fluorite - Fluorite, also called fluorspar, adds a refreshing touch wherever it appears. Whether you wear either the translucent lavender or the medley of cool rainbow colored beads, the effect is the same. You'll feel relaxed and perked up at the same time as if you'd just stepped out of a cool shower. Its name comes from Latin word "fleure" which means "to flux. And like a rainbow, each fluorite bead is unique and lovely. It reminds us that we can always begin again. That's the wonderful sense of life fluorite gives us whenever we wear it.

Garnet - Garnet has always been considered insurance for travelers against misfortune. Likewise, some believe that it is useful in warding off bad dreams and as protection from theft. The stone is thought to attract love and soul mates and to enhance creativity. It was said that Noah guided the ark by the light of a garnet lantern during the rain and darkness of the deluge. The stone was later used by travelers as a charm to ward off accidents and as an aid to safely find their way home. In Eastern Europe, garnets were worn to guard against vampires. The name comes from the Latin granum for "seed-like," as it was thought that red garnets resembled pomegranate seeds.  Garnet has been associated with the root, or red chakra; imbalances of which are said to be responsible for anxiety, irritable bowel and lack of energy.

Green Agate - According to Feng Shui, green is a benevolent, humanistic color. In this stone, the spiritual power of green is combined with that of agate. According to modern healers who use stones in healing, green agate corresponds to someone who is compassionate, generous, has good fortune and a keen sense of justice.

Jade - Green jade promotes peace and strength. It offers physical and emotional well-being, especially during unpleasant or difficult situations by helping us feel more grounded. Though we may not be able to change the situation, jade can help us accept and deal with it sanely.

Iolite - Surrender - that's the message in iolite. Iolite's spiritual value is this: it helps us to see the path we are on and the path we should be on. It calls for us to honor ourselves and to surrender some space so the sacred can work through us to make the necessary changes.

Labradorite - Labradorite is a tremendously spiritual stone. It is especially helpful for people who tend to overwork. It helps us regain our energy and aids our bodies and spirits in healing themselves. If you practice meditation (or would like to), focusing on labradorite can help you enter and maintain the meditative state.

Lapis Lazuli - Since the earliest of times, lapis lazuli has been associated with strength and courage. The Sumerians believed that the spirit of their gods lived within the stone. That theme was adopted by the ancient Egyptians, who drew a connection between the speckling of the stone and the glittering stars in the night sky. One of the most famous uses of the stone is in the mask of King Tutankhamen, where it is inlaid with turquoise and carnelian in bright gold. From Antiquity, lapis lazuli has been worn in the belief that it will ward off evil. In ancient Egypt, it was powdered and worn about the eyes to improve eyesight. Today, it is considered by some to be an aid to balancing the brow chakra (which influences vision and hearing). Imbalances are said to cause headaches, anxiety and disorders of the skin.

Moonstone - Moonstone helps with stress by calming the mind and soothing the spirit. It's so effective that gem therapists and aruyvedic doctors use a purified form of it to cure anxiety and strengthen the will. So, if you're feeling stressed and anxious put on your most beautiful moonstone jewelry.

Pearl - Pearls come fine-finished directly from nature. Because of their natural beauty, they are associated with the matrix of life and some say that the pearl helps balance one's bodily rhythms and hormonal levels with lunar cycles. They are said to harmonize one's life with the rhythms of the natural world. Having what appears to be an inward glow, some claim that pearls can be used to help tap inner wisdom and to nurture the growth of love.

Peridot - What I love most about this stone is its association with humor, especially in dark situations. Peridot has been used traditionally to heal bruised egos, lessen anger, and prevent jealousy. Whenever you're feeling uncertain or bad about yourself, whatever the reason, wear peridot. Put it in a bracelet where you can see it. Then watch how its shimmering light helps break up those dark clouds around you.

Rainbow Moonstone - Moonstone is often called the visionary's stone. It helps us see things more clearly. Rainbow moonstone, in particular, offers us visions of things that aren't immediately obvious. Because it helps us avoid tunnel vision, we are able to see other possibilities. It's like a flash of inspiration that comes when we are open and quiet. When we wear rainbow moonstone, life-changing inspirations can happen more often

Rose Quartz - Rose quartz is associated with love, the heart and beauty, and is thought to be a healing aid for the heart chakra. Imbalances of this chakra have been said to cause colds, allergies and psychosomatic illnesses. When in balance, the heart chakra is thought to make one open to love and compassion. Some believe that rose quartz has calming effects and helps people develop strong friendships.

Smoky Quartz - Smoky quartz is like a dream that shows us things we don't always see when we're awake. It helps us "go to" those places in us that make us uncomfortable and to look at those things we'd like to deny. Most important of all, it says just accept them-the positive and the negative. Do it happily. That explains why we may feel so calm and generally loving of ourselves and others whenever we wear it. And why we should wear it more often.

Tiger Eye - Tigereye promotes clear-eyed vision. It helps us see ourselves and the world around us more perceptively. Like the great cat it's named for, this gemstone knows the importance of being attentive. When we keep our eyes wide open, we are more apt to act appropriately and at the appropriate moment. It's an approach to life that can help us live longer and embrace life as an exciting learning experience.

Tourmaline - Tourmaline is a stone of hope. It brings us comfort during difficult times by helping us get quiet, so we can face whatever comes our direction. It reminds us that sunshine always follows darkness and that joy can be present even in the midst of sorrow.

Turquoise - Turquoise is said to attract prosperity and success, to have the power to influence creative powers, and to enhance the ability to communicate. The stone has long been prized as a powerful talisman with healing properties. It is said that turquoise can help balance the throat chakra (the blue chakra), increasing resistance to viruses and helping to relieve sore throats, lung infections and the affects of allergies.
